King Leopold III‘s reign of Belgium, which began in 1934, was marked by controversy and unpopular opinion of the monarch. He took over from King Albert I, who saw Belgium through World War I among other events.
Leopold III was driven out of Belgium during World War II, returning in 1950 and abdicating the throne a year later. He did, however, continue to advise his successor, King Baudouin, for a few years.
