King Albert I was the ruler of Belgium from 1909 until 1934, and many stamps were issued during his reign, including before and after World War I.
During that war, German forces occupied Belgium and used German stamps with ‘BELGIEN’ overprints.
Albert I had a long reign, in contrast to his successor, King Leopold III, who would abdicate the throne amid controversy.
