FIND MOLDAVIA-WALLACHIA STAMPS AND POSTAL COLLECTIBLES FOR SALE

Moldavian stamps from the 1860s are popular among collectors, if rare. (Note that Moldavia is not to be confused with Moldova.)

The area of modern Romania called Moldavia issued its famous cap de bour stamps in 1858 and 1859, featuring the symbol of Moldavia: a star, the head of an auroch (a kind of cow, now extinct) and a horn. These simply designed stamps are rare among collectors now.

In 1862, new stamps from the union of Moldavia and Wallachia were issued. These were very similar to the 1858-9 stamps, but had the cap de bour squeezed to make room for the Wallachia symbol as well. The stamps were used until 1865, and are often easier to find for sale.
