FIND LOMBARDY-VENETIA STAMPS AND POSTAL COLLECTIBLES FOR SALE

The Lombardy-Venetia Kingdom in northern Italy was part of the Austrian Empire in the mid 1800s, and issued its own stamps based on the design of the Austrian stamps of the time. The only difference in design was the unit of currency; where the Austrian stamps of the 1850s were in kreuzer (1 gulden = 60 kreuzer), the stamps of Lombardy-Venetia were in centesimi (1 lira [a.k.a. pound] = 100 centesimi; 6 lira = 1 scudo).

In the late 1850s, the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia adopted a new monetary system, with 1 florin = 100 soldis. This was reflected in their postage stamps, which continued to use Austrian stamp designs with the currency changed.

In 1866 the kingdom became a part of Italy, and the issuance of Lombardy-Venetia stamps ended.
