Andorra used regular French stamps until 1931, when French stamps overprinted with ‘ANDORRE’ were used for the first time. In 1932, the first original stamps for the French Administration of Andorra were issued. These stamps bore the French legend VALEES D’ANDORRE and were in a very large number of denominations, from 1 centime to 50 francs.
Both these French Admin. stamps and the Spanish Admin. stamps share legal status within Andorra. Somewhat confusingly, both postal authorities sometimes use the Catalan name on their stamps (Principat d’Andorra). French Administration stamps can sometimes be identified by their inclusion of the word POSTES, though later issues do not bear this legend. Some of these can be identified by their use of French monetary units — for example, “3,00F” for 3 francs, but even this is not always the case.

In years since those first French Andorre postage stamps, the variety of denominations of each series has been simplified, though there have been a very wide range of French Administration Andorra stamps in recent decades. In 2002, Andorran stamps began to use the euro.
