Barbados, while a British colony, used the “Britannia” design on their postage stamps from 1852 until about 1878. Britannia was the female representation of Britain, used on stamps and other items to honor the country.
There are several Britannia stamps from Barbados that were issued available for collectors in the marketplace today. Very collectible, these stamps especially appeal not only to Barbados stamps collectors, but also to collectors of British and empire stamps. Barbados would also use stamps featuring Queen Victoria, as did most other British territories of the time.
