The Bahamas’ first postage stamps were issued in 1859, during the reign of Queen Victoria. Many stamps from this period featured likenesses of Victoria.
Collectors of Bahamas stamps today often concentrate on the Victorian stamps from the Caribbean islands, which were a territory of the United Kingdom in the 1800s. In addition to Queen Victoria stamps for the Bahamas, there are covers featuring Victoria stamps that can be very collectible. Following Victoria’s death in 1901, her successor King Edward VII made his appearances on Bahamas stamps.
