Aruba, in the Leeward Antilles with Curaçao, only began issuing its own postage stamps in 1986; before that, Aruba was part of the Netherlands Antilles and used the stamps of that autonomous Caribbean country.
Aruba’s stamps tend to commemorate aspects of the island itself — its flora, fauna, agriculture, folklore, buildings, heroes, and of course the lovely tropical setting. Aruba stamps tend to have a rather modern design, with some futuristic typefaces, pop-art colors and shapes, and hip, intriguing balance and use of white space. Several Aruba stamps bring attention to social issues such as child welfare, fire prevention, and endangered wildlife.
