The colony of Labuan, today part of Malaysia, issued its own stamps and these were overprinted for use in Brunei in 1906, a year before Brunei finally had its own stamps issued (except for Brunei’s limited-use “star and crescent” stamps printed in 1895).
The Labuan stamps in Brunei were overprinted ‘BRUNEI’. Examples for sale these days have a limited range, but they are popular with Brunei stamp collectors because they are a part of the country’s philatelic history.
