The French Territory of the Afars and Issas was the name of the area that became the modern country of Djibouti in Eastern Africa; its French name was Territoire français des Afars et des Issas. The Afars and the Issas were two groups that had traditionally lived in the area. Afars and Issas, formerly French Somaliland, used its own stamps from 1967 until 1977, when it gained independence from France.
Afars and Issas stamps, only being issued for 10 years, are relatively easy to collect, and you can even find complete sets if you are patient. Popular subject of Afars and Issas stamps include birds and other wildlife. There was a set of four postage due stamps made for Afars and Issas in 1969.
