The French Territory of the Afars and Issas was the name of the area that became the modern country of Djibouti in Eastern Africa; its French name was Territoire français des Afars et des Issas. The Afars and the Issas were two groups that had traditionally lived in the area. Afars and Issas, formerly French Somaliland, used its own stamps from 1967 until 1977, when it gained independence from France.
