British Bechuanaland was a short-lived entity that lasted from 1885 to 1895 as a British colony. Today, the area that was British Bechuanaland is part of the nation of South Africa.
British Bechuanaland used the stamps of the Cape of Good Hope with overprints reading ‘BRITISH BECHUANALAND’. There were several different colors, designs, and values used on British Bechuanaland stamps, and collectors these days have a good time hunting for interesting examples of these pieces of British and African postal history.
An area to the north of British Bechuanaland was called (somewhat confusingly for stamp collectors) Bechuanaland Protectorate. This area (now Botswana) used the stamps of British Bechuanaland, with additional overprints, for a brief time.
