The United States issued a silver three-cent coin from 1851 until 1873. The vast majority of the silver 3¢ coins minted in the U.S. were from the Philadelphia mint. Other three-cent coins were made of nickel; both versions were halted in 1873 as the one-cent penny and five-cent nickel had proven more popular.
Collectors now can fairly easily find silver 3-cent coins from the United States in the for sale marketplace in various conditions. Interested collectors can find higher-quality proof versions as well.
