Several years after the last five-cent half dime (the draped bust half dime), the United States designed and issued another such coin: the capped bust half dime. The obverse of this coin showed a bust of Liberty, who is wearing a cap and facing left. These silver coins were made from 1829 to 1837 and there are quite a few nice pieces for sale at any one time in the collectors’ marketplace. Check the listings, which reflect the capped bust half dimes of several sellers from different areas; the offers are updated each day and new items are frequently added.
In 1837, a new half dime was introduced — the seated Liberty half dime, which would last several decades.
