President Franklin Roosevelt was honored the year after his death with the introduction of the Roosevelt dime in the United States in 1946; it is still used to this day. Like previous dimes (Mercury, Barber, et cetera) the Roosevelt was at first made mostly of silver; however, in 1965 the silver was removed from subsequent Roosevelt dimes in favor of a copper and nickel makeup.
There have been several proof sets and various collectible versions of the Roosevelt dime over the years; other collectors try to build a complete set of all years and/or all mints. Those interested in silver coinage may concentrate on Roosevelt dimes minted before 1965.
