The earliest collectible coins from the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island coins include Spanish real coins that had a large hole cut out of the center; these coins date from about 1791. These are so rare that they are not often seen for sale, however.
More practical for most collectors and buyers of Prince Edward Island coins are the 1871 cent coins that were issued on PEI, and modern coins that commemorate Prince Edward Island. The latter includes the popular 1973 coins issued in special collectors’ sets. Besides coins, there are often coin-like tokens seen for sale from the nineteenth century.
