Commodus, Roman Emperor from 177 until 192 AD, was known by different versions of his name throughout his life; at his death, his name was Caesar Lucius Aelius Aurelius Commodus Augustus. Commodus was co-emperor from 177 alongside his own father, Marcus Aurelius, until the elder ruler died in 180, after which Commodus ruled alone. Upon becoming co-emperor, Commodus was only sixteen; he was nineteen when he became sole ruler.
Collectible Commodus coins of the time can be found for sale from various vendors. Some listings may be of authentic coins, and some may be modern replicas; these latter should be clearly indicated as such by the seller (and, often, it’s obvious from the price and condition of the coin). Commodus was murdered at age 31 in the year of 192, and Pertinax followed as ruler for a brief 3-month reign.
