I recently wanted to get some coins from Mauritius, a small island in the Indian Ocean. You may be wondering why I want Mauritius coins. Well, it’s because my wife, Harriet, once visited there, and she’s always talking about how great it is. Plus, the country’s name sounds like “Mauritius the Merrier,” and that’s hilarious to me.

I expected to get Mauritius coins by getting them in change from buying something. So, I packed my homemade time machine and went back in time to Mauritius.
I arrived in a small village called Grand Gaube, located in the northern part of the island. Grand Gaube is known for its fishing community and picturesque views of the sea. It’s also smaller than the town I live in Canada. The weather was hot and humid, unlike the colder climate in Canada, which was a bit of a shock.
I spent eight days in Grand Gaube trying to get some Mauritius coins. I thought it would be easy, but it wasn’t. I was constantly afraid of doing something wrong, like not understanding their currency or culture. I tried to buy things with Canadian coins to get some Mauritius coins in change, but no one accepted them. I also tried to trade with locals, but they didn’t have any coins to spare.

Ultimately, I couldn’t get any Mauritius coins on this trip. It was disappointing, but I wasn’t surprised since it’s a small island, and coins were scarce. However, I was surprised at how difficult it was to get them.
I used my time machine to go back to present-day Canada, and I was surprised at how much I missed Grand Gaube, even though I didn’t get any coins. I reflected on my experience and realized that collecting coins is not just about the end goal; it’s about the journey and the people you meet along the way. I may try to get Mauritius coins again someday, but for now, I’m happy with the memories I made.
