Vanuatu, which was called New Hebrides until 1980, issued its first banknotes in 1982. Bills from Vanautu were inscribed on the obverse “CENTRAL BANK OF VANUATU” and “BANQUE CENTRALE DE VANUATU”; on the back, “CENTRAL BANK BLONG VANUATU”. From 1995 onwards, the word “CENTRAL” was replaced with “RESERVE”. The banknotes are denominated in the currency unit vatu.
The designs on Vanuatu banknotes are related to island life — scenes and concerns of the native people of Vanuatu. Sets and proofs are available for sale for collectors — check our current selection of various Vanuatu notes for sale and come back often for daily updates and new listings.
