In 1892 the long-used seated Liberty half dollar coin of the United States was superseded by a new design from Charles Barber; these so-called Barber half-dollars were made of silver and showed Liberty in a simple profile. Barber half-dollars were used until 1915.
Barber half dollars had a reeded edge and were minted in each of four different mints: Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Denver. Philadelphia-made Barber half-dollars have no mint mark, while the other three do (“O”, “S”, and “D” respectively).
Collectors who buy Barber half-dollars may find a wide variety of years and variations and conditions for sale at any one time in our Barber fifty cent coins for sale section. Look around and see what is available, and come back often to see the latest additions which are made daily. Following the end of Barber half-dollars, the U.S. Mint began producing walking Liberty half-dollars.
