Hey there, it’s Stanley, your favorite coin collector! Today, I want to talk about one of my favorite trips to find unique and rare coins: Benin.
Benin is a small country in West Africa, but it has a rich history that is reflected in its currency. I’m always on the lookout for coins from this country because they tell a story about the people who used them and the culture they came from.
When I visited Benin, I used my time machine to travel back to 1998. I arrived in the city of Cotonou, which is the largest city and economic center of Benin. The streets were teeming with people and the air was filled with the aroma of street food and spices.

As I walked around, I met a group of men who were selling coins. They showed me a couple of Benin coins that caught my eye. They were made of bronze and had intricate designs that were unique to the region. I had to have them.
The men told me a wild story about how the coins were found in an abandoned house in a nearby village. I don’t know if I believe them, but I do know that the coins are some of the most interesting in my collection.
I put the Benin coins up for auction on eBay with an opening bid of $20. To my surprise, they ended up selling for $125. I was amazed by how much people were willing to pay for these rare and unique coins.
