Greetings, fellow coin collectors! It’s Stanley, the time-traveling coin collector from Canada, here to share my latest adventure with you. Lately, I’ve been feeling frustrated with my collection, so I decided to hop in my time machine and head back to Senegal in 1992 to see if I could find some unique coins for my collection or to sell on eBay.
This was my third time visiting Senegal, and I had also been to nearby countries like Mauritania and Mali, from which I had sold coins before. Upon arrival, I found myself in a rural area with sandy roads and simple buildings, feeling a bit disoriented. But I quickly got my bearings by chatting with locals and determining that I was in the small town of Fatick, in the western part of Senegal.

As I explored Senegal, I observed the country’s culture and history at the time, from its musical traditions to its role in the global economy. To get coins from people, I enlisted the help of a friendly local, which is a strategy that has worked well for me in the past.
After chatting with him for a bit and explaining my hobby, he offered to introduce me to some people who might have coins for me. We then set out together to visit different parts of the town and surrounding areas, stopping to talk to people along the way. Whenever we met someone who seemed interested or knowledgeable about coins, my local friend would translate and explain my request. Most people were happy to help and eager to show me their collections.

Some people even invited us into their homes to show me their coin collections, which was a unique and intimate experience. It was fascinating to see the different types of coins people had, from older coins that had been passed down through generations to newer ones that were still in circulation.
Upon my return to the present day, I decided to auction some of the Senegal coins on eBay and give some to a friend. Unfortunately, the coins did not fetch the high prices I had hoped for, leaving me feeling a bit down. But overall, I was grateful for the opportunity to visit Senegal and add to my experience.
