Antigua and Barbuda is a country in the Caribbean made up of two different islands that issues its own collectible stamps. The island of Barbuda to the north, and Antigua to the south, have also issued their own separate stamps. These issues overlap at times, and it’s possible to spend quite a bit of time and research working towards a complete collection of Antigua and Barbuda stamps.
And it’s an enormously exciting pursuit for hobbyists as well.
History of Antigua and Barbuda Stamps
The islands of Barbuda and Antigua each gained independence from Britain in 1981. They then combined to form the modern country called Antigua and Barbuda. But the postal history doesn’t actually start there.

Before independence, both islands issued their own separate postage stamps. These (in the case of Antigua) go back all the way to 1862, believe it or not. Barbuda only issued stamps since 1968 but independence didn’t stop them. The northern island continued to issue its own postage stamps until 2000. (Upon independence, Antigua immediately began using stamps inscribed ANTIGUA & BARBUDA; now they both do.)
