As was the case with King George V before him, Britain’s King George VI appeared on stamps that were overprinted ‘BAHRAIN’ for use in Bahrain, which was then a British territory. George VI’s reign began in late 1936.
The stamps used in Bahrain for the first part of King George VI’s reign were ‘India Postage’ stamps, used in India and in many British territories around the world. In 1948, following the independence of India and Pakistan, regular British stamps with overprints were used in Bahrain, and these continued to show a likeness of King George VI.
George VI’s successor, Queen Elizabeth II, would go on to appear on Bahrain overprint stamps following her coronation in 1952. Current King George VI overprint stamps from Bahrain for sale are listed in this section. Check the selection often, which changes daily.
