In March 2013 the Reserve Bank of Fiji announced a new $5 polymer banknote — Fiji’s first polymer bill. The new bills will be issued on April 2, 2013 and are pale green in color. Old non-polymer $5 Fiji banknotes will be legal tender until June 30, 2013.
The new Fijian polymer banknotes are twice as expensive to print, but are supposed to last three times as long. This latest change in Fiji’s banknotes follows the exodus of the $2 note following the introduction of a new $2 coin.
Old $5 from Fiji notes will likely be seen more and more on the market as the populace begins trading them in for new polymer notes and the old ones become more scarce.
